Tips to Pulling Off Modern Suits For Professional Men

Modern Men's Suits in the Work Place

It's a bit of a challenge to pull off the look of today's modern suits for the work place. For starters the cut of today's modern suits is very very slim. slimmer than its ever been in the history of men's tailored clothing. The jacket is cropped almost to the top of the hip, the trousers a bit on the short side and the fit very constricting.

It's a very unique look and one that looks at home for dinners out to pop type cosmopolitan restaurants. Many believe that the look belongs for after hours rather than 9-5. Its hard to imagine it on a power player during a board room meeting. While there is some truth to that there is definitely ways to pull of modern men's suits with out looking too fashion forward.

The trick to getting a great MOD look at the work place is by taking it in moderation. Too far over and its hard to take you serious, but the need to look sharp and fashionable is still totally understandable. Here are a couple of things to look for to help make a functional modern look:

Start with a conservative color. The cut will should be the top feature of the suit. Stick with wool with minimal sheen in classic colors such as navy blue and charcoal gray. Keeping the fabric understated gives it a more well tailored look rather than trendy.
Aim for a comfortable fit. It might be a slim cut but make sure you can move and breathe. If it feels too tight go up a size. If it looks too tight you will be uncomfortable and it will make your co workers or clients feel the same way.
Stay subtle with the details. Keeping it simple allows the suit to stand on its cut. Try to achieve the same details like pockets, buttons, lapels as you would find on your grand pas suit. The hall mark of the best truly great modern men's suits is that they look like updated versions of classics.
Keep the theme. if you are wearing a modern suit make sure that you tie, dress shirts, shoes etc all match the same theme.
