The exquisite Stuhrling Original Winchester skeleton automatic watch is anchored by the same reliable 20-jewel mechanical automatic movement (cal. ST-90089) as previously seen in two of Stuhrling's all-time best selling timepieces, the Delphi and the Alpine. But with the Winchester, the movement exhibits even more detailing and hand engraving than ever before. The simple three-hand movement with the well proportioned pumpkin style crown and the brushed finish skeletonized hands makes for a reliable and eye-catching timepiece that is never out of place.

An automatic (or self-winding) watch is fitted with a device (rotor) that automatically winds the spring by using the force of gravity. It needs no battery, but it will stop if you have been physically inactive for an extended period of time--as long as you're moving, the watch will stay powered. Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Perrelet invented the self-winding mechanism in 1770. It worked on the same principle as a modern pedometer, and was designed to wind as the owner walked.

I've Read a lot of reviews about this watch, and you know what most of the positve reviews are spot on. I purchased this watch a week ago and I actually just finished looking it over a few minutes ago. Before I recieved it I went to a couple jewelery stores to check out other skeleton watches and just other watches in general. I frankly wasn't all that inpressed with other wathces in the same price range. As far as with the weight and feel of the watch, and how it felt on my writst. and even when I moved up to the 500-1200 price range same thing they felt nice and I was only a little impressed. Now I'm no watch "Expert" but I think I've done enough research and I also think I know what a quality product is. Let me tell you guys this is a quality watch. Who cares if this thing is made in china. It's made with the same equipment as if it where made by a swiss horologist in Switzerland. (I know its not handmade) The presentation is great really nice watch box. Look the only way to get a better quality watch than any Stuhrling Original is to go up into the 1 thousand to 1,500 dollar range. And anyone buying a watch on Amazon.com is probably not enough of an expert to notice much of a difference. In fact it seems like with more expensive watches you are only paying for brand name anyway. Well watch out Citizen, Seiko, Pulsar, you have some heavy competition. And buy the way the list price is just a marketing ploy, to make you think they are priced more. In reality though they would be worth their list price or even more.

I received my watch today and the word for it is "striking". My wife calls it "heavy" meaning very impressive. My kids say it is very good looking. I ordered it because the skeleton feature makes it rather unique. I got bored wearing watches since 2002 and have not worn any since then until this evening. My cellphones prior to this evening have doubled as my timepiece. My interest in my watches rarely exceed 18 months at the most, I hope this will exceed my prior more expensive watches from Citizen, Seiko, Bulova and Pulsar.Interestingly , my cheapest watch a black background Lucienne was my most loved watch.This Stuhrling skeleton watch renewed my interest in watches. I accidentally stumbled on it at amazon while browsing the Sony 52 XR6 LCD TV. Time will tell if it is a durable watch and can sustain my interest longer than the other watches that I have had.I like automatic watches despite the fact that they either loose or gain 2.5 secs a day.You just have to reset them every week or two. Another trick is, every morning wear your automatic watch on the wrist of the hand you use in holding your toothbrush while brushing your teeth.Hence, you are simultaneosely whinning your watch for the day while brushing your teeth at the same time. This keeps your watch accurate on a daily basis and you will not need to adjust it weekly or every two weeks.

I have some suggestions for the makers of this watch.
1. Make a similar design with quartz movement for those not comfortable with the nuances of automatic watches.
2. Include a date feature in subsequent models.
3. I wish the hour markers were in Roman numerals than Arabic. The Arabic numbers look amateur, I wish the craftsmanship will improve in this area if they must continue using Arabic numbers.
4. A smaller version for Ladies will be welcome. My wife asked if there was a lady version.The Lady's skeleton watch from Stuhrling with the love symbol looks very toyish and unserious. I wonder if it was designed for teens.

I look forward to a sustained interest in this rather unique looking watch!
